A selection from Netflix of movies and TV shows featuring same-sex love have raised concerns among family protection rights representatives in Russia. As reported by “Vedomosti”, with reference to internal sources, the service is already being checked in the Moscow department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The agency received a complaint, which reported on the demonstration on Netflix of a number of films about LGBT people labeled “16+”. This is a direct violation of Part 2 of Art. 6.21 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation. According to journalists, the activists want to bring representatives of the platform to justice, which involves a large fine.

If violations are found on Netflix, the platform faces a fine of one million rubles. In turn, this could become a precedent for tougher regulation of streaming services.
