Game Awards 2023: Indie Game Announcement Recap

It’s not all AAA titles and big exclusive reveals at the Game Awards, sometimes it’s important to give some love to the smaller games.


Outside the big lights, AAA titles, and musical performances are the hidden gems. The “I really like the look of” games, but we all move on and forget sometimes! So, in this article, we’ll remind you of all those smaller titles you might have missed during the 2023 Game Awards.

Tunic

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Developed by the team behind Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the team’s next attempt at the team-based survival horror experience.

Homeworld 3

The Expanse – A Telltale Series

Based on the popular Amazon series, Telltale Games is back (though it’s a new studio now) for their first full game since their return.

Thirsty Suitors

From the developer behind Falcon Age, comes Thirsty Suitors. A “Stylish, story-driven adventure” with turn-based battle, skateboarding, and, something more games need, cooking.

Evil West

Evil West, the dark fantasy, Weird West, third-person action game. From Focus Entertainment and Flying Wild Hogs.

Have a Nice Death

A hand-drawn, 2D action Rogue-Lite with Death as the main character. What’s not to love (or hate) about that?

Planet of Lana

Originally shown off in June 2023, Planet of Lana is a cute new game from Sweden. At the Game Awards, it was confirmed that Takeshi Furukawa would be composing the music for the project.

Sommervile

A new sci-fi adventure game from the co-creator of Limbo and Inside is about all you really need to know about Sommervile. Coming to Xbox and PC in 2023, this is the first game from co-founder Dino Patti, and film animator Chris Olsen.

Tchi

The beautiful art style, playful gameplay, and a wonderful world. What more could you ask for from a game than what Tchia is giving off. Coming out in Spring 2023, with inspirations from Breath of the Wild, we can’t wait to play Tchia.

Among Us VR

We’re not sure who was asking for Among Us to come to VR, but here it is, it’s happening, so time to stab your friends, and complete your tasks in VR.

Star Trek Resurgence

We’ve had a space game from Telltale, now we get one from their former developers as the folks at Dramatic Labs heads into the Star Trek universe.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

It’s another title from publisher Focus Home, as we get a sequel to one of the most popular indie titles of the past 5 years. It’s not a great game if you don’t like rats, however.

ARC Raiders

It’s another game coming out of Sweden, and it’s another first game from a new studio. Embark brings us a third-person shooter with some impressive visuals. The standard for indies games never ceases to amaze.
