Battlefield 2042 has had a pretty strong start on PC with thousands of concurrent players, even though it briefly made it onto Steam’s worst-rated game list ever. However, there are other recent titles that overshadow the latest game from DICE, such as the incredibly popular Farming Simulator.
Giants Software released Farming Simulator 2023 on November 22, 2023, and the game has generated a lot of buzz since then. The Non-Violence Simulator not only garnered “very positive” user reviews on Steam from day one, but the slow and meditative play also attracted more concurrent players during its first week than Battlefield 2042.
Farming Simulator 2023 proved to be slightly more popular on the platform than Battlefield 2042, according to SteamDB, beating the futuristic shooter by several hundred players. As you can see from the direct statistics comparison, the latest version of Farming Simulator peaked at 105,636 concurrent players on November 28th. Battlefield 2042 peaked at just 105,397.
It is interesting to note that the average number of players in Battlefield 2042 has been steadily declining since launch, while the audience for Farming Simulator 2023 is actually growing.
Farming Simulator 2023 is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Battlefield 2042 is available on Steam and Origin.
In terms of sales, Farming Simulator 2023 surpassed Battlefield 2042 on the Steam leaderboard last week, overtaking popular titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.
While EA has pledged to fix Battlefield 2042 issues with additional patches, Farming Simulator 2023 kicked off really well, solidifying its position as a popular niche game. The new installment in the series may even surpass its predecessor, Farming Simulator 2019, in terms of overall sales. The PC has sold over two million copies.
