After Game of Thrones season 5, George Martin lost creative control of the show

Throughout the release of all the episodes of the series “Game of Thrones”, it was actively promoted as a show created by the author of fantasy novels “A Song of Ice and Fire” George Martin. The creators of the series often used the phrase that the writer is responsible for the plot of the adaptation and is in charge of the general direction of the series. George Martin really worked on the plot of “Game of Thrones”, but he did it only until the fifth season, and has nothing to do with the “scandalous” finale.

According to WinterIsComing, referring to the recently released book “Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers”, “Game of Thrones” showrunners have practically abandoned the work of George Martin after the fifth season. The book cites a quote from Paul Haas, the writer’s official press representative. According to him, George Martin was very concerned about the chosen direction of the plot. Moreover, the author has never described the finale of his saga to anyone, including the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

Martin liked Dan Weiss and Dave Benioff, but after the fifth season he was worried about the new direction of the stories. He warned them that they “stopped following the original idea.”

– says Paul Haas.

Haas also stressed that Martin has nothing to do with the series finale. The writer has not yet told the end of his saga to anyone and it will be possible to recognize it only after the release of a new book.
