You may have noticed that there are many famous media franchises in which women star rather than men. Ghostbusters, Doctor Who, and recent Star Wars films are examples where male protagonists have been replaced by women. Some people like it, but some don’t.
For example, British MP Nick Fletcher blames the vilification of masculinity for the fact that women are replacing male characters in films and on television, arguing that this is the reason for the rise in crime rates in England.
“Everywhere, not least in the cultural realm, there seems to be a call from a tiny but very loud minority that every male character or good role model should have a female replacement. Just look at the debate around the next James Bond. And it’s not just James Bond. In recent years, we’ve seen Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker, The Great Equalizer, all replaced by women, leaving the men with the Krais and Tommy Shelby. Is it any wonder we see so many young people committing crimes? “
Those. What Fletcher means is that all male characters in the media are replaced by women, and only criminal characters remain with male roles.
